Nearly 15,000 people claiming Job Seekers Allowance are struggling with debts in excess of £15,000 according to figures released by the Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) today. This equates to 1 in 8 of the people who contacted them during the first half of this year. They say that huge numbers of people in this situation will never be able to pay back their unsecured debts.
CCCS says that one of the key reasons for these debt problems is unemployment, with over 22% of contacts citing this as a reason for their debt problems during this time period.
